It is the right question to ask of any damp company. The firm that diagnoses the problem profits from the cure. Here is how our answer is different. Every survey ends with a written moisture report, whatever we find. If there is nothing to treat, you receive a written all-clear. A salesman does not hand you a document confirming you do not need to spend money.

Isn’t a free survey just a sales visit?

Most free surveys are exactly that, and we name the problem openly because we hear the objection every week. The difference is what you leave with. A sales visit produces a verbal quote and a follow-up call. Our survey produces a written document you can compare and consider without pressure.

Why are damp quotes so different between companies?

Because some companies diagnose the most expensive solution rather than the correct one. Chemical DPC injection does not fix condensation. A cavity membrane does not fix a pointing failure. Our surveyor identifies the actual cause first. If treatment is needed, the quotation is fixed-price. The number we give you is the number you pay.

What is rising damp, and is that what I have?

Rising damp is groundwater drawn up through a wall by capillary action. It is a real problem, but much less common than the trade suggests. Most damp at low level is condensation, penetrating damp, or a bridged damp-proof course. We never call it rising damp until the moisture profile confirms it.

What happens if you find nothing wrong?

You receive a written all-clear document with moisture readings and photos. You pay nothing. This happens more often than people expect. The document is yours to keep, and it is useful if you ever sell the property.

How long does the survey take?

Most surveys take under two hours. The surveyor inspects inside and outside, takes moisture readings at multiple heights, and photographs the relevant areas. Active damp typically extends the replastering scope the longer it is left.
